In celebration of Today, the 4th or July, I thought I would share some quotes from the men who sacrificed so much that we could be a free and independent people.  Between hot dogs and backyard games, we should all take a moment to reflect on the words and actions of these men everyday but especially on this day.

The best thing to give to your enemy is forgiveness; to an opponent, tolerance; to a friend, your heart; to your child, a good example; to a father, deference; to your mother, conduct that will make her proud of you; to yourself, respect; to all others, charity.
— Benjamin Franklin

Liberty cannot be preserved without a general knowledge among the people, who have a right…and a desire to know; but besides this, they have a right, an indisputable, unalienable, indefeasible, divine right to that most dreaded and envied kind of knowledge, I mean of the characters and conduct of their rulers.
— John Adams

The distinctions between Virginians, Pennsylvanians, New Yorkers, and New Englanders are no more. I Am Not A Virginian, But An American!
— Patrick Henry

A militia, when properly formed, are in fact the people themselves… and include all men capable of bearing arms.
— Richard Henry Lee

No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms. The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government
— Thomas Jefferson

The very atmosphere of firearms anywhere and everywhere restrains evil interference – they deserve a place of honor with all that’s good
— George Washington

Critical Thinking by John Wayne

This is an interesting interview with John Wayne, from 1975.  It is interesting because what he says in directly applicable to current events.  The Duke speaks to the tactics used by liberals then and still in use today.  Yes, John Wayne is something of a hero for me.  Yes, John Wayne wasn’t his real name; the audio is important for what he says, not necessarily who is saying it.

LANGUAGE WARNING, the audio contains some swears and curses that may not be appropriate for children.

The audio starts out with this quote… “Hell yes, I’m a liberal. I listen to both sides before I make up my mind. Doesn’t that make you a liberal? Not in today’s terms, it doesn’t. These days, you have to be a fucking left-wing radical to be a liberal. Politically, though … I’ve mellowed.”

Another great John Wayne quote:
“I’m quite sure that the concept of a Government-run reservation… seems to be what the socialists are working for now — to have everyone cared for from cradle to grave…. But you can’t whine and bellyache ’cause somebody else got a break and you didn’t, like those Indians are. We’ll all be on a reservation soon if the socialists keep subsidizing groups like them with our tax money.”- John Wayne

The audio is from TonyMacklin.net, the interview took place in 1975.  The complete interview can be heard here.

-Ronald Reagan

“Of the four wars in my lifetime, none came about because the U.S. was too strong.”

Can they disarm us?

This the strongest 2nd amendment argument I have heard, that explains what is happening today…

Ultimately, they can only disarm us if we let them…

And if that doesn’t put things in perspective, try these “numbers” on for size:

Stand against Tyranny

A study published in the latest issue of the academic journal Applied Economics Letters took on many of the claims made regularly by advocates of stricter gun laws. From the paper Abstract: “The purpose of the present study is to determine the effects of state-level assault weapons bans and concealed weapons laws on state-level murder rates. Using data for the period 1980 to 2009 and controlling for state and year fixed effects, the results of the present study suggest that states with restrictions on the carrying of concealed weapons had higher gun-related murder rates than other states. It was also found that assault weapons bans did not significantly affect murder rates at the state level. These results suggest that restrictive concealed weapons laws may cause an increase in gun-related murders at the state level. The results of this study are consistent with some prior research in this area, most notably Lott and Mustard (1997).

Nothing surprising here to anyone with a ounce of common-sense!  Interesting this is confirming prior research from1997, proves that the facts/proof have been available which begs the question, if we know this and the proof is available why the huge push for gun control and weapons bans? Support of stronger restrictions on gun ownership is not supported by an exhaustive analysis of crime statistics.  The people pushing for these restrictions are not back woods dummies, they are well educated people!  Why would they ignore the facts?  Why hide behind emotional responses and ignore the statistics, studies, and obvious fact that the vast majority of shootings occur in “gun free zones”.  Could it be that there is a hidden agenda?  There don’t seem to be to many other logical reasons for such an agenda.  It is a power grab, plan and simple.  The “powers that be” (UN, US Government, etc) understand that an armed populous is a limitation on their power and ability to push their agenda and control.  History proves this to be true.  The only province in the Soviet Union to successfully revolt ware the province of Georgia, why?  Because their population had the right to carry musket loaders.  This occurred during the mid-1900’s, not during the 1800’s, but the mere musket loader and a willingness to take significant losses enabled their successful and prolonged revolt.  Afghanistan was and is another example of an armed population holding off and defeating a significantly larger and more advanced force (Russia and now US).

If you can check your emotional response for a moment and think about the topic logically I believe you will begin to see the light of common-sense.  Self-Defense is not just a personal issue, it is defense against tyranny in any form, be it personal, gang, vigilant, organized or government.  With no protection your only course of action is to submit or die.  The Martial Arts began in response to such tyranny, and still stand as the appropriate response to defend against physical  acts of tyranny, but even the Martial Arts has its limit and facing a shooter beyond arms length is such a limit.  Stand for Freedom, Stand against Tyranny, Oppose Gun Laws and Restrictions.

Political Action

I follow politics almost religiously, and not just the news, I read meeting minutes, watch legislative sessions, read proposed bills, comment on proposed bills, and I read commentary from a spectrum of sources.  You could say I consider myself an over-informed voter.  Despite all this I have never been very politically active aside from voting (never have missed a vote) and commenting on bills.

Today I wrote our State Senators the following:

If you fund ObamaCare I will fund any opposition to you and all other senators that support this illegal bill.  The majority of people (working and productive) and polls oppose this legislative abortion. (see: http://today.uconn.edu/blog/2013/09/uconn-poll-as-obamacare-enrollment-begins-majority-unfavorable).

How can you DARE to fund something you have exempted yourself from, that is truly shameful.  I will put all of my spare time and money into fighting you and those who stand with funding ObamaCare.  I speak for myself and my entire family (9 voters) and most of our friends.

In addition to writing I have decide that I am entering a new phase in my life.  Today, I am becoming more politically active.  I plan on starting to attend the local political party meetings and possibly running for office in the next few years.  I doubt I will get elected but you never know!

Sending the Right Message

Self-Defense demands a strong posture that sends a message that you are not an easy target and that if you mess with me you aren’t going to have an easy time of it.  Perhaps the best example of this is the Texas Tan line…

Meet Robert Steed, a resident of Vernon, Connecticut who took three days straight off work to attend several gun control hearings in Connecticut. There isn’t a lot I can add to his testimony.

Robert Steed did a great job!

I am not sure which Representative dais this, he is clearly visible in the video (if you know who he is please post it in the comment section), but his word choice was interesting:

“As long as we live in an open and free democratic society your not going to be able to get a handle on all of the violence in our society.  …You’ll  get a better handle on it in a Dictatorship where they take all your guns and watch your every move….” …”we don’t want to go down that road”…

I believe in reading between the lines, especially with politicians.  First I thought to even bring a dictatorship up in the debate was interesting, but notice his wording at the end.  …”We don’t want to go down that road”  Wouldn’t it have been more appropriate (if you felt the need to even go there) to end with, but that will never happen in here, in this country.

On March 19th he was back at it again…

In follow-up testimony Robert Steed again knocks the ball out of the park!  Here it is:

No More Karate Electoral College!!

You read right, it is all the rage, we are tired of going to competitions and having to deal with this insanely unfair Karate Electoral College.  The last competition I went to was so unfair, the vast majority of the people at the competition chose me as the winner.  It was clear by the crowds reaction, by the energy in the room, even an electronic poll they were running (American Idol style) had me the clear winner.  So what happened?  Some judges ruled that my opponent won and I lost!  That was the most unfair experience of my life and the crowd agreed.  Wouldn’t you?  Shouldn’t the most popular contestant win?  Shouldn’t the people be able to choose the winner, I mean they are watching the fight, they know!!  That is why we need to get rid of the Karate Electoral College!

Alright that didn’t happen quiet that way.  I am from a very small club, low budget, low body count.  What chance do we have at a competition?  Well if it is run fairly then a pretty good chance.  I have been to both, fair and unfair competitions, they look the same from the outside, they look the same to the crowd.  The illusion part is easy for the crowd, the contestants always know, but who do they complain to?

Democracy sucks.  The big clubs/schools, with the 500 students win.  The small clubs/schools don’t have a voice.  Democracy is High School, there are the popular kids (who can do anything up to and including murder), the normal kids (geeks – perspective people) and then there are the wanna-be’s (that is the crowd that want to be part of the popular kid club but are to self-deluded to see that they never will be and that the popular kids aren’t really that nice).  Yes I stereotype 😉

Perhaps, a popular vote wouldn’t be all that fair for anyone other than the person who can gain 51% support.  In other words the club/school who brings the most members has the best chance of winning.  Not very fair for the smaller clubs/schools!  Does that mean the Karate Electoral College is actually more fair?!  This video may shed some light on the matter, let me know what you think in the comments section…

The 2nd Ammendment

Think you know what the 2nd amendment is for, think the world safe, think you know what you are talking about?  Invest 7 minutes, watch the video and perhaps you will be able to answer these questions honestly.  Or you can remain blind and deceived by the lord of lies and his minions…

IF only our citizens would elect someone with this much honesty and fortitude.  Alas we would rather elect a celebrity than a leader or statesman.  How blind are ‘we the people’ that we continue to be so short sighted…

PS:  I’ve been looking for a reason to use the world minions!!
