Make the Time to Train!
Events & Holidays . Fitness . Training notesWe all have the best of intentions when it comes to New Years resolutions, attempts to get in shape, diet, learn something new or just improve ourselves. Unfortunately we are creatures of habit and if you have never made a habit of following through you are in for a rough road that will most likely lead to failure. Why, because failure is easier that trying and succeeding. We have a million built in excuses from a lifetime of failures to fall back on.
If you realize this and you really want to change then there is hope! All you need are the right tools, will power, reminders and commitment. Not much at all when you say it that way!! Now you just have to find the time to change…
How to find the time to change? There are 168 hours in a week. If you sleep 8 hours per night that leaves 112 hours. If you go to school or work 5 days a week for 8 hours a day 72 hours are left. If you do 3 hours of chores or homework per night 51 hours remain. Waste 2 hours a day on TV or video games or surfing the Internet and you have 37 hours left. That’s 5 hours and 20 minutes a day of free allocated time! If you dedicate 2 hours a day to reaching your goals you will be amazed at the progress you will make! And that still leaves you about 3 hours and 20 minutes a day to hanging with friends, hobbies, movies, etc. The more you change the healthier your habits the more free time you will have!
Below are the two tools to help you get started. First make a list of your top goals or priorities using the “Goals / Priorities List“. There is room for 10 but honestly it should be limited to no more than 2-5 goals or priorities to start.
Next you need to map out the days in your week using the “Finding Time Schedule” sheet below, make a schedule and stick with it! Don’t reinvent your schedule start with your regular schedule and tweak it where needed. Start small, remember you have plenty of time (see above). Mark in your dedicated time for each of your goal numbers.
Then the work starts. Post it where you can see it. Set Calendar reminders, set alarms on your phone, do whatever it takes so you can’t ignore your commitment. Whatever you do start small, don;t start exercising 2 hours a day, start with 15-30 minutes and increase it over time. Remember this is for the long haul, you are changing for success. Every success makes the next that much easier to attain.
Set you will power. Lock away your excuses. Refuse failure. Work hard, even when you don’t want to! Luck has nothing to do with it.
Happy New Year.
