{"id":1718,"date":"2011-09-26T04:15:37","date_gmt":"2011-09-26T08:15:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/karatetraining.org\/weblog\/?p=1718"},"modified":"2023-04-11T15:16:56","modified_gmt":"2023-04-11T19:16:56","slug":"kyokushin-katas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/karatetraining.org\/weblog\/kyokushin-katas\/","title":{"rendered":"Kyokushin Katas"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Kata (forms)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Kata is the synergy or technique and skill.&nbsp; Kata is a form of ritualized training in which patterned or memorized movements are done in order to practice a form of virtualized combat.&nbsp; Several kata are also done in \u201c<strong>ura<\/strong>\u201d denoted by the <em>ura<\/em> at the end of the Kata name.&nbsp; Ura indicates a different pattern of footwork that produces a spin on one foot for almost every move.&nbsp;&nbsp; The <em>ura<\/em> versions of the Kata were developed by Mas Oyama to improve balance and agility.<\/p>\n\n\n<script>\r\n document.write('<hr style=\"width=75%; border-top: 2px solid #000; margin: auto;'>');\r\n<\/script>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Northern Kata<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The northern kata have their origins in Shotokan karate, which Oyama learned while training under Gichin Funakoshi. The URA, or \u2018reverse\u2019 kata were developed by Oyama as an aid to developing balance and multi-direction combat skills.
