The Meaning of the Purple Belt (4th Kyu)
Training notesThe purple belt is a milestone which many fail to attain and fewer continue beyond. The test for the Purple belt is the first that begins to branch out from the basic techniques. We require a deeper understanding of our movements and mental perspectives. Purple a color made from other colors is the first step to synergy of body (green) and mind (blue). Purple is a Royal color and so those who wear the Purple belt now rank above the average student. The Purple belt is beginning to realize the power of the Martial Arts, the hard and the soft, the ying and the yang. Here as in with the Blue belt the Martial Artist must not only strive to defeat their ego but to control themselves and learn the virtues of peace and compassion. Physically demanding, mentally challenging, the Purple belt is but the first step in ability to control ourselves and master our Art.
