There was a time that Karate lessons were for adults only. These days most people associate karate lessons with kids and teens. The tide is leveling off and today there are plenty of karate classes for adults once again. Your only restrictions are the ones you give yourself. Anyone who wants to learn can!
Our motivation for Karate Training changes as we age. For our kids we want them to learn respect and discipline (something I argue they won’t learn unless you are teaching them that at home!). As Teens it is usually for physical activity, achievement and self-defense. As adults the reasons are more varied, many just want the exercise and stretching, some want to know how to defend themselves, yet others just want the personal challenge of learning something new in a group setting.
As we age some aspects of Karate Training like physical combat may not be such an advantageous scenario! Have no fear, even at an old age, physical combat can be safe and in most Dojos it is an optional activity. Most importantly, the concepts of health and longevity found in martial arts can be practiced and mastered starting at any age. The wisdom of age often enhances the training!
