Real FightingKarate . Quotes
“The heart of our karate is real fighting. There can be no proof without real fighting. Without proof there is no trust. Without trust there is no respect. This is a definition in the world of martial arts.”
— Mas Oyama
Life is about Trials and Achievement. While today people don’t want to admit this, preferring to live in a delusional fantasy world where they can define themselves as winners, only those who are tested are real. This is one reason we honor (or should honor) our combat veterans, they have had Real experiences. This is why we should be striving for real experiences.
In the Martial Arts, it is only in contact sparring or a real fight that we test our metal. (not suggesting we should look for a real fight.) We measure up against our opponent and only one of us can win. If we drill everyday, have perfect form and total fitness, it means nothing if we flinch or fold in a fight. The trial of combat gives us proof of our skills and self. We gain trust in ourselves and others who are witness gain trust in us also. With that trust comes respect in how others listen and react to us. Our own respect for others should grow because while we might triumph in real combat we show gain respect for our opponent’s fortitude.
This is why we train. OSU!
