How do you defend against this?!

OK, this isn’t that recent, but it caught my attention as I was scanning an old newspaper article, from October 2, 1933:

Now I know times have changed but…really?!  I guess that is grounds for divorce.  Historically it is interesting because we tend to think people didn’t get divorced ‘back then’.

This also got me to thinking about how one would defend against snakes down the back?!
