Real Fights Don’t LastKarate . Self-Defense . State of Mind . Video
It still amazes me how many of my students regardless of age have never been in a fight before, never been hit in the face. I guess I grew up in a rougher area and a tougher time, where a wise comment could result in a fat lip.
I understood two sayings that seem to no longer be understood.
First, “Sticks and stones will break my bones but words will never hurt me.”.
The Second was “If you are going to talk the talk you better be able to walk the walk.“.
The other thing I find interesting is people have a lot of ideas about fighting. My guess is these ideas mostly come from the Movies where fights can last for a quite long and the individuals can take a ridiculous amount of abuse (and walk away!). In Reality most fights are over in seconds not minutes. For example…
Below is a video of two people having an altercation. I do not know the circumstances or who started it. But it is clear who finishes it. See for yourself:
One person seems to be emotionally upset and intent on harming the other person. The other person is fairly calm and understanding this won’t stop waits for an opening and acts. Notice that the fight is over in under 5 seconds. One hit and it’s done. While that doesn’t happen all the time with such precision it does happen with a dazed or stunned person.
From watching this I would say the emotionally upset person probably has never been in a real fight, just lots of bluster with no consequences, hence his lack of understanding that the other person may hit back. The calmer person obviously has probably been in a real fight and understands the rules. Either way the results are powerful.
We hope everyone involved was Okay, learned something and walked away a little wiser.
