Stand against Tyranny

A study published in the latest issue of the academic journal Applied Economics Letters took on many of the claims made regularly by advocates of stricter gun laws. From the paper Abstract: “The purpose of the present study is to determine the effects of state-level assault weapons bans and concealed weapons laws on state-level murder rates. Using data for the period 1980 to 2009 and controlling for state and year fixed effects, the results of the present study suggest that states with restrictions on the carrying of concealed weapons had higher gun-related murder rates than other states. It was also found that assault weapons bans did not significantly affect murder rates at the state level. These results suggest that restrictive concealed weapons laws may cause an increase in gun-related murders at the state level. The results of this study are consistent with some prior research in this area, most notably Lott and Mustard (1997).

Nothing surprising here to anyone with a ounce of common-sense!  Interesting this is confirming prior research from1997, proves that the facts/proof have been available which begs the question, if we know this and the proof is available why the huge push for gun control and weapons bans? Support of stronger restrictions on gun ownership is not supported by an exhaustive analysis of crime statistics.  The people pushing for these restrictions are not back woods dummies, they are well educated people!  Why would they ignore the facts?  Why hide behind emotional responses and ignore the statistics, studies, and obvious fact that the vast majority of shootings occur in “gun free zones”.  Could it be that there is a hidden agenda?  There don’t seem to be to many other logical reasons for such an agenda.  It is a power grab, plan and simple.  The “powers that be” (UN, US Government, etc) understand that an armed populous is a limitation on their power and ability to push their agenda and control.  History proves this to be true.  The only province in the Soviet Union to successfully revolt ware the province of Georgia, why?  Because their population had the right to carry musket loaders.  This occurred during the mid-1900’s, not during the 1800’s, but the mere musket loader and a willingness to take significant losses enabled their successful and prolonged revolt.  Afghanistan was and is another example of an armed population holding off and defeating a significantly larger and more advanced force (Russia and now US).

If you can check your emotional response for a moment and think about the topic logically I believe you will begin to see the light of common-sense.  Self-Defense is not just a personal issue, it is defense against tyranny in any form, be it personal, gang, vigilant, organized or government.  With no protection your only course of action is to submit or die.  The Martial Arts began in response to such tyranny, and still stand as the appropriate response to defend against physical  acts of tyranny, but even the Martial Arts has its limit and facing a shooter beyond arms length is such a limit.  Stand for Freedom, Stand against Tyranny, Oppose Gun Laws and Restrictions.

Sending the Right Message

Self-Defense demands a strong posture that sends a message that you are not an easy target and that if you mess with me you aren’t going to have an easy time of it.  Perhaps the best example of this is the Texas Tan line…

Unity, Truth, and Goodness

What do Unity, Truth, and Goodness have to do with the Martial Arts?  That is perhaps hard for many to see, especially those new to the Martial Arts.  Here is a quote to start the conversation with:

Franciscan John Duns Scotus says that when the one, and the true, and the good are operating in unity, whatever is happening will always also be beautiful! This is his de facto definition of beauty: the harmony between unity, truth, and goodness. When you can see all three, or even one, you will always be delighted.  Beauty is experienced precisely in our ability to hold together the oneness, the truthfulness, and the goodness of things—despite all the seeming contrary evidence (which is always there!).  –Richard Rohr, Catholic Franciscan and Founder of the Center for Contemplation and Action

Now that may not seem to apply to the Martial Arts but I hope you will find that it actually does.  When we begin to train in the Martial Arts there is nothing beautiful about it!  We are awkward because we lack understanding and knowledge, we lack experience necessary to perform the basic movements of the Martial Arts.  Our mind and body do not have Unity, they both resist in relinquishing control to you, the student.  The more you practice the more Unity you gain, things begin to become natural and flow.

If you stop your training there, you have accomplished much and it will serve you well in every aspect of your life.  But you will be lacking.  As we continue to train the Unity of our practice becomes comfortable and smooth, but is missing something.  With continued training you will begin to experience moments of epiphany when you see the Truth of your perfect execution and the True uses of that particular technique.  You will even see the Truth of using a particular technique in ways you were never taught.  You will feel confidence and power swell in a type of calm pride.

If you stop your training at this point you will be a formidable opponent who can handle most situations that would call for Martial Arts skills.  But you would still be lacking.  Because at this point you have only seen the partial truth of your training.  You have the Truth of each technique but you have yet to assemble them to their true ending.  Goodness.  This training part of your training is difficult to be taught, because you feel your training is complete.  Your physical training is, but we are more than physical beings and the Martial Arts at every point recognizes that.  I will try to explain this next step in your training, most ignore it, few understand what they seek, and fewer discover it (I am not professing that I have).  Goodness comes from the picture and feeling of the Unity and Truth you have gained.  The Goodness comes from understanding that all your training, all your sweat was not leading where you thought.  You thought you were training to be a Master Warrior near indestructible!  Instead you start to see the Goodness, the Truth the Unity that in training and honing your body and mind to fight, you no longer desire to.  You seek Justice through peace not strength or will or power of what you could do.  Rather your skill and power is only meant to be used in a reflective manner, defensive only.

If you stop your training here, you have much to teach the world of students who await you.

This is the secret of the Martial Arts that most have forgotten or chosen to ignore for a multitude of reasons.  Live in Peace (Goodness).  Live in Awareness (Truth).  Live at Peace with yourself (Unity).  You will be the calm, unmovable Stone at the center of a raging river of life.

No More Karate Electoral College!!

You read right, it is all the rage, we are tired of going to competitions and having to deal with this insanely unfair Karate Electoral College.  The last competition I went to was so unfair, the vast majority of the people at the competition chose me as the winner.  It was clear by the crowds reaction, by the energy in the room, even an electronic poll they were running (American Idol style) had me the clear winner.  So what happened?  Some judges ruled that my opponent won and I lost!  That was the most unfair experience of my life and the crowd agreed.  Wouldn’t you?  Shouldn’t the most popular contestant win?  Shouldn’t the people be able to choose the winner, I mean they are watching the fight, they know!!  That is why we need to get rid of the Karate Electoral College!

Alright that didn’t happen quiet that way.  I am from a very small club, low budget, low body count.  What chance do we have at a competition?  Well if it is run fairly then a pretty good chance.  I have been to both, fair and unfair competitions, they look the same from the outside, they look the same to the crowd.  The illusion part is easy for the crowd, the contestants always know, but who do they complain to?

Democracy sucks.  The big clubs/schools, with the 500 students win.  The small clubs/schools don’t have a voice.  Democracy is High School, there are the popular kids (who can do anything up to and including murder), the normal kids (geeks – perspective people) and then there are the wanna-be’s (that is the crowd that want to be part of the popular kid club but are to self-deluded to see that they never will be and that the popular kids aren’t really that nice).  Yes I stereotype 😉

Perhaps, a popular vote wouldn’t be all that fair for anyone other than the person who can gain 51% support.  In other words the club/school who brings the most members has the best chance of winning.  Not very fair for the smaller clubs/schools!  Does that mean the Karate Electoral College is actually more fair?!  This video may shed some light on the matter, let me know what you think in the comments section…

The 2nd Ammendment

Think you know what the 2nd amendment is for, think the world safe, think you know what you are talking about?  Invest 7 minutes, watch the video and perhaps you will be able to answer these questions honestly.  Or you can remain blind and deceived by the lord of lies and his minions…

IF only our citizens would elect someone with this much honesty and fortitude.  Alas we would rather elect a celebrity than a leader or statesman.  How blind are ‘we the people’ that we continue to be so short sighted…

PS:  I’ve been looking for a reason to use the world minions!!

I wish I had more time to write on this topic as I (like most people) could write volumes of intelligent articles to battle the emotional response under-informed citizens seem caught up in.  Since I don’t have a ton of spare time right now I wanted to share this video that covers all the major bases and mentions my home state, Connecticut!

Enjoy and please post your comments and opinions here so we can have a conversation or flame war, your choice 😉

For those of you who watch what you eat, here’s the final word on nutrition and health. It’s a relief to know the truth after all those conflicting nutritional studies.

1. The Japanese eat very little fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

2. The Mexicans eat a lot of fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

3. The Chinese drink very little red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

4. The Italians drink a lot of red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans…

5. The Germans drink a lot of beer and eat lots of sausages and fats and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

CONCLUSION:
Eat and drink what you like.
Speaking English is apparently what kills you.

Relax, it’s Saturday…

The Truth About Guns

This is the most lucid, intelligent, civil, well thought-out objection to current Gun Control proposals.

Gun Control

I’ve remained silent for a while now, out of respect for the dead and because I don’t like exploiting situations like this.  Unfortunately those who support gun control have no problem sensationalizing, over reporting, and frankly traumatizing the public with stories like these.  They have been at it for years, they will be at it for years to come.  Who wants gun control?  The uninformed and those who do not like the idea that you may be able to stand against the things they believe in.  Fascists, communists, socialists and progressives like gun control, history teaches us this.  Unfortunately we are living in a period of history where we (the collective we) have forgotten the lessons of history and begun to believe that we are better than our predecessors, more civilized.   These people think things turn bad quickly with easy to spot signs.  History teaches us differently.  From antiquity the story always plays out the same and unfortunately it always has the same ending, death and enslavement.  There are many different forms of slavery, they all begin with fear.  Guns level the playing field.  The age old mantra of gun control proponents is that if we have no guns society will be a a safer place.  Reality could not be further from that belief.

Let us say that we could in fact remove ALL of the guns from society, including those that the criminals have.  That would be utopia, no?  I mean crime would go down, no more crazy people shooting up schools and theatres and such…right?  Wrong.  So the criminals are disarmed does that mean they will suddenly become law abiding citizens?  No it does not.  But now they have the advantage.  How?  Well guns have an equalizing effect on society.  You see a 70 year old man being attacked by a 20-30 year old attacker is going to lose in 99% of the cases.  What choice do the defenseless (the children, the seniors, the women, the weak, the timid) have but to submit under gun control?  NONE.  Think about the defenseless group of “the weak” for a moment, that group might include a 6 foot 5 inch man who weighs 300 pounds, if he is confronted by 4-5 thugs with baseball bats.  The defenseless become anyone who is a law abiding citizen.  The criminals know this, the police know this, the politicians know this, they are banking on the fact that you won’t realize this.

Facts.  People who want gun control HATE FACTS.  They are emotional beings not willing to admit that bad things happen and life is often unfair and cut short.  They do not want to solve the problem, they want to feel better.  Unfortunately for them, only after we loose our freedom with they realize their mistake.  Anyone who ignores all facts and rationalizes away anything that conflicts with their ideas, is probably… well probably suffering from some sort of insanity.  I know that will make some cringe, but that is part of the problem.  Evil relies on the fact that “good”, nice people are willing to try to find compromise.  Good people do not compromise when the facts are on their side.  If they did, we would be drinking a lot more tea today!

Now that I have said most of my peace, I want to share a few videos that present a few different perspectives and some clarity on several issue I have not touched on.

Let’s start with the facts about the current gun control move, a decent presentation without the sensationalized coverage:

Next let’s look at the facts and a case study of a country, not unlike America, that has implemented gun control, Australia.  How has that been working out for them?  See for yourself:

Let’s see what Ice-T had to say about gun control after the 2012 shooting in Denver, CO.

I’ve already liked Ice-T, not necessarily a fan of his music but he is now one of my favorite people in Hollywood!

This slightly choppy, computer generate cartoon seems to cover every argument for gun control:

And of course probably my favorite, because it spoofs what the left wants but isn’t willing to do, live now be the rules they want to impose on all of us.  I think those in favor of Gun Control should implement this in their work and home immediately.  They could even label their cars!!  That would show how much support there is for gun control!  Take a look:

And the real reason we MUST fight Gun Control, to defend our liberty and our freedom.  Don’t believe it is possible:

For those not willing to understand history and not willing to look around the world with their eyes wide open, Gun Control may seem like a good idea.  To the rest of us, we understand that America is the last stand of freedom in the world, the last protector of liberty.

This explains so much…
