Great Chicken Fried Rice! I came across this great recipe with a very amusing presentation. Betty has Martial Arts Appeal and we are more then happy to present her here πŸ™‚

If you couldn’t write that all down fast enough here is the Ingredient list and Directions or you can print it from the PDF Betty was gracious enough to make available. Happy Cooking!

    Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Jasmine white rice
  • 2 green onions (aka spring onions)
  • 2 wheels medium sweet white onion
  • 1 small carrot
  • 2 eggs
  • 2-3 cloves garlic
  • ΒΎ – 1 cup chopped chicken
  • Β½ cup low sodium soy sauce (to taste)
  • canola oil
  • salt & pepper
    Directions:

  1. Prepare one cup Jasmine white rice. That’s 3 cups cooked white rice, yo.
  2. Allow the rice to cool or even chill out in the refrigerator before you use it.
  3. Dice green onions, white onion and carrot. Mince garlic; set aside. Shred or chop grilled chicken; set aside.
  4. Saute green onions, white onion and carrot in your biggest, flattest skillet with a dash of salt and a crack of pepper in 1 tsp canola oil over medium heat until tender and golden. Remove from heat.
  5. Cook 2 eggs in 1 tsp of canola oil. Start with a fry and end with a scramble. Don’t forget the salt and pepper. Remove from heat.
  6. Add 1 tbsp canola oil to medium-high heat pan. Begin cooking the rice in small batches, gradually adding rice to pan. The rice will not brown, per se, but begin to get a little color around the edges. Fry plain rice 5-7 minutes.
  7. Sprinkle low-sodium soy sauce over frying rice. Toss.
  8. Add a scant tablespoon of butter. Toss.
  9. Fry rice, soy sauce and butter for another 5 minutes.
  10. Add sauted vegetable mixture and eggs. Toss.
  11. Lower heat to medium-low and add chicken, garlic and finish of soy sauce. Toss a few more minutes and enjoy!

For an added treat serve with some steamed broccoli. A sprinkling of toasted sesame seeds and a dash of Sriracha never hurt either! Buy the ingredients using the provided links and help support the Pride Lasts Scholarship while satisfying your appetite!

The Best Karate Kid Parody!

I’m not sure I would call this a Parody, but that is the Title. This is really the best Karate Kid short I have ever seen. It is also one of the best Karate Shorts period. From the soundtrack to the filming this has a great professional feel to it. I especially like the ending when he refuses the bait, a very nice and realistic touch…you’ll understand…after you watch it.

We will spend some more time on this film during our upcoming Exclusive Interview the with creator Nic Shake.

Look for it soon right here!

An Exercise Collection – Work Your Lower Body – Part 2

Here is the follow up to the previous collection. Lunges are a great way to strengthen your legs for the Martial Arts!

Step Up

Place right foot on top of box holding dumbbells or bar behind head in squat position. Extend right knee and hip driving through the heel until completely upright, left leg should not touch the box, it should go directly back to the floor. No bending at the waist, keep head and chest up.

Walking lunge

My students are familiar with this exercise! Take hip width stance holding dumbbells keeping head and chest up, take big step out with right foot, place right heel down, bend right knee to 90 degrees. Left leg should bend and follow and come 2 inches from the floor, extend right knee and hip, bring left leg forward. Switch legs every rep.

Clock Lunge

The clock lunge is great if you don’t have a lot of space. This is a standard lunge but you lunge to each position of the clock beginning with 12 o’clock. The 3 and 9 o’clock positions are a squat style lunge. This video provides a better visual description.

Lateral LungesLateral lunge (Leg stretch side-push knee)

Place feet uncomfortably wide with toes pointed out. Keep head and chest up, inhale push hips back and to the right, keeping right heel down so that right glute finishes behind right heel, right knee should be little greater than 90 degrees. For an increased stretch right glute is just above the right heel, placing your right arm on the inside of your right leg. Left leg should stay straight, left toe should come up, exhale push back to middle. Both heels should stay on the ground at all times. Alternate sides.

Sumo Dead-LiftSumo Dead-lift

No this dead-lift won’t make you look like a sumo wrestler! It will give you strong legs and a strong low back like a sumo wrestler’s. A wide stance with your arms between your legs differentiates this dead-lift from the rest. Place feet uncomfortably wide, toes pointed out, bend knees and hips, position bar up against shins, take closed overhand grip on bar, keep back flat and head up, extend knees and hips simultaneously pulling bar up shins, as bar passes knees push hips forward. Slowly lower bar by flexing hips and knees together until weight touches ground.

RDLRDL

Holding either dumbbells or a barbell, position feet hip width with toes pointed straight ahead, grip should be closed overhand at shoulder width, unlock knees putting weight on heels, pull shoulder blades back tight, inhale, push glute back letting the bar slide down the thighs. When you feel a stretch extend the hips and come up straight.

Karate Breaking Explained

Fun and Learning should go hand-in-hand and this video does a great job of explaining the physics of Karate. I speak about the physics and math of the Martial Arts whenever I get the chance so this video is really cool to me. While breaking stuff isn’t my favorite past time this is an excellent explanation of why we can do these things. Get your pencil ready!

Chuck Norris, Politics and Endorsements

One of my readers sent this to me a while ago but I’ve been so busy I just got a chance to watch it today… I can’t believe I hadn’t seen this, but it was a definite fit, so thank you Rebecca! The Video is a political ad for Mike Huckabee who I really don’t know much about but this was a great idea on his staffs part! Enjoy….

While I try to keep the blogs content centric the above video got me thinking I should give some “air-time” to the only candidate I support, Fred Thompson. I have followed his political career for a long time now and he is a very principled man who does what he says he is going to do. I’m not trying to convert or convince anyone, you have to make your own choices but perhaps I will give you pause to give Fred some consideration. Regardless is turns out he also has a great sense of humor! In a recent Ad in typical Fred Thompson fashion he shunned the mainstream media and released this video directly to YouTube in response to a challenge from Michael “the rich fat slob who pretends to know our problems to make more money” Moore.

I can see why Fred Thompson doesn’t like the media but I like the fact that they included a clip of Moore expressing his love for America. If you missed it you’ll have to watch it again. In typical fashion the news media cut the beginning of the video which makes it lose something, here is the complete 38 second version of the video:

If you want to know more about Fred Thompson and where he stands on the issues this is a good clip to start with. Yes I said stand on the issues not spin, he actually states his stance but more importantly explains his plan on how to make his approach a reality. Haven’t heard talk like that since Ronald Reagan ran for office. And yes, I mean that as a compliment!

This is perhaps one of the best explanations of Federalism and why it is such a healthy and incredible form of government I’ve ever heard. If this isn’t a breath of fresh air then what is?!

Feel free to post comments as I would like to know what you think, other resources, links and opinions. Look forward to hearing from you…

An Appropriate Reaction

This is old news but a great talking point so I am drawing some attention to it. In the video Burt Reynolds slaps a reporter…GASP, the horror! So why would Burt Reynolds do such a thing? Well, Burt Reynolds slapped the CBS reporter at premier of film “The Longest Yard” when the reporter admits he never saw the original. Sounds reasonable to me!

Burt Reynolds is a man’s man and has never worried about what people think but he also has never shown himself to be mean spirited, quite the opposite. In the video Burt is clearly smacking the “guy” upside the head for being an idiot. Now if it was a female reporter then perhaps Burt’s move would have been inappropriate but in a man’s world body contact like this is normal behavior. Guys give each other a hard time for being idiots and yes a smack in the head is appropriate sometimes.

What is really interesting is the way CBS chose to report the story. CBS uses language to mislead and inflame the situation for the public to try and maximize the news worthiness of this non-news item. Using language like CBS Producer to neuter the reporter and insinuate the report was a woman. Then they make the offense sound more violent stating Burt Reynolds “Hitting” a CBS Producer. Most people will only hear or remember the sound bite and then draw their own conclusions. In my opinion more people should slap reporters for bad reporting…strike that, for out right lying about events to make them more sensational. Way to go Burt!

Bob Barker, Karate Man?

This is an interesting video clip, it appears that at some point Bob Barker applied for a job at ESPN (or spoofed one) and this is the resulting edited version. Listen to hear Bob review his resume and why he would be the best guy for the job. But don’t get to close!

It has been a while since I have posted some Chuck Norris humor. I stumbled across this old commercial when getting the video for the last post. Don’t ask me why but this stuff cracks me up! I still read through the Chuck Norris posts in the Forum. If you have any others please post them there or here as a comment. Hope you enjoy this as much as I do…

Master Out Done by Teenage Girl…

ktadmin Posted in Entertainment, Training notes, Video,

Thin teenage girl breaks more tile then accomplished Karate Master! Or does she… Watch closely as this is both entertaining and educational.

Notice that when the karate master breaks the tiles he only breaks the tiles as far as his elbow reaches. That is because his body position stopped the force of the downward strike. If he had used a knife-hand strike or the bottom of the fist he would have most likely gone through all of the tiles as his force would have continued downward.

The hardest part of breaking is the mental aspect, being able to thrust through the target. Injury occurs when we do not focus through the target but instead focus on the surface of the target. That hurts! Of course there is a certain amount of physical strength or mass required to break certain objects. Breaking is a great demonstration of ones mental control and focus. This is still a funny video though, the Karate Master looked like he was about to loose his control! Perhaps that is why the host so quickly admitted to the stunt…!
